Interurbain
Synopsis
Interurbain explores a mother's emotional void in the face of geographical distance and the absence of her son. Through foggy train windows, passing landscapes reflect both separation and connection. Her voice messages go unanswered as silences stretch on. The film delves into a space of waiting, where fragmented memories and unfinished conversations come together, making the journey a metaphor for longing and the impossibility of filling the void

Director's statement
Interurbain finds its origins in a personal tension between the pursuit of professional fulfillment and leaving behind my family and loved ones.
During my years in Montreal, I regularly took the train to visit my family in Quebec City. With a camera in hand, I instinctively recorded spontaneous moments that glimpsed through the train windows. At the same time, my mother would send me voice messages that alternated between everyday anecdotes and deeper reflections. When I revisited these two archives, I realised that each contained part of the tension I was experiencing, and I felt compelled to bring them together in a film.
For me, this film is meant to be experienced like a train journey: a state of in-between, a meditative space, suspended between vaporous winter landscapes, lulled by repetitive sounds and the passing suburbs. It conveys the metaphorical feeling of being unable to turn back, of moving forward in a continuous flow, carried by the dialogue of my mother's voice messages and the gradual deepening of silence. It is a one-way conversation in which she sometimes ends up responding to herself as the messages unfolds. To reinforce this sense of introspection, I wanted to incorporate visual memories in tune with her words, much like visualizing images of what is being described. Those visual recollections blend with the landscape, as if they were both present on the train and momentarily escaping into one’s own mind.
