Director's statement
I don’t escape the cliché, my first film is deeply personal and explore my family roots. I wanted to make a film that is sensitive, funny, independent, and handcrafted, just like the way my mother has always practiced her art. More broadly, by constructing a portrait of my mother’s profession, I aim to situate it within a larger issue that inevitably speaks on feminism within a marginalized institution where female clowns embody a rare social specificity as a marginalized subgroup, with the image of the clown in the collective consciousness being inherently masculine. It is important for me to give voice to a woman with an unconventional profession who reclaims and redefines the codes of what some might call "madness."
