Synopsis
80 year old Gerry moves in a little house in front of Jeannette’s place, an eighty year old woman. Intrigued by the delivery of numerous packages at her new neighbour’s house, Jeannette is getting out of her loneliness to live a last love story.

Biography
Based in Montreal, Lucie Émard has been designing and creating puppets for thirty years. Selected as an artist for the Culture-Education program since 2004, she has produced several puppet shows and conducted numerous fabrication workshops. In 2021, she undertook the transformation of her exhibition into a film titled "The Package." As a director and designer, Lucie Émard uses her puppets as actors filmed in real-time, without special effects, to highlight the pure essence of string puppetry and the magic of this technique.

Director's statement
The Package is a short fiction project with Marionettes, using characters and sceneries I created for an exhibition in 2020. In May 2021, I worked on the transition of this exhibition into cinema, writing the screenplay. First I adapted my work physically for the shooting, put systems of controlling threads on my characters so they can come to life through the puppeteer’s hand. It allowed me to adapt my screenplay taking into account the obligations of that kind of animation method. We shot the film in July 2022.
