Balance

Luiza Cocora / 2024 / 20 min. / Canada / Ukrainien, Russe

Synopsis

Anna, a twelve-year-old Ukrainian gymnast, fled her war-torn country and recently settled in Montreal with her mother, younger brother and grandmother. Between her assiduous training and the everyday moments shared with her family, Anna must overcome a painful past and draw on her resilience to find her place in an unfamiliar world. Exile, like gymnastics, plunges her into a quest to regain her balance, a battle between gravity and lightness, where each challenge pushes her forward. Through the eyes of a child, the documentary explores the reality of the post-war period, questioning what remains and what's missing, even when one has found refuge.
