The World and the Machine
Synopsis
Winter. Roland, 91, walks in a field as wide as the eye can see, borders disappearing. He is alone in the white, grey, and brown-toned landscape. While walking, Roland thinks about the world he has known in the past, the one he lives in presently, and the one he imagines in the future. He has a discussion with himself about his life experiences in the 20th and 21st centuries. His thoughts wander and he ponders societal transformations, human relations, technologies and machines. Over the course of his walk, tension emerges. A change in perspective takes place. As a crow flies, he becomes prey. He is watched and monitored. It is then that he meets and confronts his fear.
