L'inconvénient (working title)
Synopsis
Amid labor protests for better working conditions during the Industrial Revolution, Marie and her sister Louise struggle daily to survive in the harsh, precarious world of a cotton mill. When Louise seriously injures her hand on a machine, Marie takes radical, morally questionable actions to keep her from losing her job. In the process, while confronting coworkers and the foreman, she ultimately alienates her younger sister.

Biography
Julien G. Marcotte is a screenwriter and director based in Montreal. Following his graduation in film studies at the Université de Montréal, he directed his first short film, Louise de 9 à 5 (2021). His next film, Les mains sales (2023), won the Best Canadian Short Film award at the Vancouver International Film Festival and was included in TIFF’s Canada’s Top Ten.
